June was a really good reading month for me, I reread a bit, but I also got some new books read, and I enjoyed most of them. Technically I read 13 books, but 1 was a short story, and another a collection of comics. But still, they count to my Goodreads goal, which means I read them.
Snug by Catana Chetwynd.
This is the second collection of comics by this author I’ve read. Just like the last time, I adored this book, it is just full of adorable comics that are designed to make you smile or laugh.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston
This book, my gods. I had heard a lot about this book, and I finally picked it up and adored it. I loved the characters and Alex’s discovery of who he is. I loved the political element, even if I don’t fully understand it. I adored Alex and Henry’s relationship and the way they grow to love each other and themselves. It may not be my go-to genre, but you say LGBT+ book, I will read it.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary.
This book was one of my favourites from last year, and I have been wanting to reread it for ages, so I finally picked it up again. I love this story so much, and even if the writing is different for Leon, I caught on quickly and loved the storyline. I adore the characters and the development Tiffy goes through. I have not read a book that talks so openly about abusive relationships and gaslighting like this. And I am so glad I brought this on a whim last year.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Runaways, Vol. 1: Pride and Joy by Brian L. Vaughan & Adrian Alphona (Artist)
This comic was very enjoyable. I know the story but have never actually sat down and read it. It is an enjoyable story and is a Marvel comic, so I, of course, enjoyed it. I am looking for the second and hope to get it soon.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Umbrella Academy, Vol 1: The Apocalypse Suite by Gerard Way, Gabriel Bá (Artist) & Dave Stewart (Colourist)
I have been wanting to watch the Netflix show of this, so I decided I better finally read the original comic. I really enjoyed the story and am really curious about a lot of things. So I'm hoping to pick up the other volumes soon and start the show as I have several friends hounding me to do so.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan
I have been wanting to reread the Heroes of Olympus series since I reread The Percy Jackson series last year. I forgot how much I enjoyed this series. And I still don’t get all the hate this book gets. People didn’t like that Percy wasn’t it in, but once you get past that, its good! The characters get a lot of hate, but they’re all great characters, and they work well together. Leo is the best character though ; )
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan
The second book finally brings Percy back, and you see where he’s been all these months, and follow his new adventure. I loved the introduction of new characters. I love Hazel and Frank will all my heart and Renya! I loved the adventure they went on, and the little memory sparks Percy has. Overall, this is probably my favourite of the whole series, but I do love all the books.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan
The third book finally has the whole crew together, and it created some interesting interactions between them all. But I loved the direction of this book, how the war they’re sailing to stop is ramping up, but now there is the problem of the war between camps. I loved seeing everyone together, and all the hijinks they get up to. And that ending!!!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The House of Hades by Rick Riordan
The fourth book, and some fo the highest stakes. Having Percy and Annabeth go through what they did in this book, I was always so worried for them and seeing how detrimental they are to the team. It is interesting seeing how the crew goes without them, and how they grow. I loved Piper’s growth in this, realising more how her powers work, and learning how to fight more with what she's got. And Hazel learning more about her strengths with the mist. I just love the characters in this series and how they develop.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Staff of Serapis by Rick Riordan
This was just a short story bringing together Annabeth and Sadie Kane from the Kane Chronicles, it’s the second in these short stories, and I haven’t read the first yet. But I did just get the book of all three of these stories, so I’ll be sure to read them soon.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Crier’s War by Nina Varela
This book sounded fascinating when I got it, and when I found out it was LGBT+ romance, I was so excited. Which makes me sad that I didn’t enjoy it as much as I wanted to. I had some issues with the story that I couldn’t get past, and I got very frustrated at times. However, I did love the relationship between Ayla and Crier. And I am interested enough in the story to read the sequel when I can. I just wish I had been more into the story
⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan
The last book in the series, and the one I remember least, as I’ve reread the others, but I only read this one once when it came out almost 6 years ago. I forgot how much I loved this book, and that I felt it was a great ending. I was annoyed Percy didn’t get any chapters, but the story was really good otherwise. And Nico! My baby! And Renya! I loved their chapters the most if I honest. They’re some of my favourite characters, but if I’m honest, they’re all my favourite. Except the obvious.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Carry On by Rainbow Rowell
Finally, the book club book of the month. This book was pretty good. It was a fun and enjoyable read, and I love Baz so much. I loved him and Simon getting together, and that was one of the main reasons I was reading it if I am honest. I enjoyed the story, and I was not expecting that ending, but it was a good twist. I don’t know if ill read the sequel, but I might as I own it.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Why do I do these endings? I cover everything at the beginning anyway. I am so confused with myself.
